Ryan and I were determined not to go into debt for our wedding day. The most important part was the union that was happening between us, and in front of, a small group of people who we loved. All in all, we spent under $8k! Not only that, our ceremony and reception were perfect. We walked away feeling good, emotionally and financially. In this video, we chat about where our money went, why we did things the way we did, and the importance of why making mindful money decisions matter to us.
Below you can find the most important things that we wanted to accomplish for our special day.
Not going into debt was huge for us. Finding ways to celebrate our love, have the day be beautiful, and navigating our spending in a way that made us feel free and financially comfortable, was an irreplaceable choice.
Supporting small businesses for our big items like my dress, the cake, and food made a difference for us. We felt good that our money was going to people we believed in and wholeheartedly supported. It made the funds we did spend feel less like a splurge and more like thoughtful spending on things and brands we adored.
Not accepting gifts is most likely my favorite thing from the day (aside from marrying my best friend). Asking for honeymoon fund contributions was not only smart for us but removed the hassle of having to lug things to and from the venue (my uncle’s house).
I hope you enjoy a recap of our wedding! We had a blast. It was small, intimate, easy, and filled with love. Did you do something similar for your wedding day? If so, leave a comment below, I would love to hear about it! For more tips, click here.
